IPOH, April 4 – The Perak police have seized assets, worth RM905,145, belonging to drug traffickers arrested in the state during the first three months of this year. Perak Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department head ACP R. Ravi Chandran said they included houses, land, vehicles and bank deposits and were seized under the Dangerous Drug (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
He said a total of 3,954 drug offenders were caught during the period, an increase of 154 per cent from 1,553 people in the corresponding period last year. This year’s arrest included 117 people under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for drug trafficking which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction, he told reporters today.
“In the meantime, there were 1,136 people were caught for drug possession, an increase of 20 per cent from 947 people on last year. Their arrest led to the seizure of various drugs, including the heroin, syabu and cannabis. It worth about RM950,000,” he added.
