PUTRAJAYA, April 6 – Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman will lead the Malaysian delegation to the two-day Geneva Conference on Preventing Violent Extremism beginning Thursday in Switzerland. A Wisma Putra statement Wednesday said Anifah would also share Malaysia’s perspective and experiences on preventing violent terrorism at the national level while participating in the high-level segement of the conference.

It said Anifah’s participation at the conference reflected Malaysia’s unwavering support and commitment towards tackling the threat of terrorism and violent extremism. The conference is co-hosted by Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

It is expected to provide an opportunity for the international community to share experiences and good practices in addressing drivers of violent extremism. Wisma Putra said the conference would also give further consideration to the Secretary-General’s Plan of Action on Preventing Violent Extremism, which was presented to UN member states in New York on Feb 17 this year.
