KANGAR, April 7 – Indera Kayangan state assemblyman Chan Ming Kai of PKR was arrested yesterday for obstructing the installation of a telecommunications tower here. He was held at the Kangar Police headquarters at 9.30am. Kangar Police chief DSP Wari Kiew confirmed that Chan was held under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

Chan had allegedly obstructed the installation of the tower in Taman Jaya Diri and also obstructed policemen on duty there. Chan told Bernama that he had protested because Perlis Comm Sdn Bhd which won the tender did not have a special permit from the Perlis Land and Mines Office though it had the approval of the Kangar Municipal Council.
