KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said yesterday the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on 1MDB proved false the allegation of a hidden hand that had benefited from some transactions. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, said the recommendations contained in the report should be looked into, including the need for enforcement agencies to conduct investigations into a former chief executive officer of 1MDB.
The PAC tabled the report in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday. One of its recommendations was that the authorities investigate former 1MDB CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi and other relevant officers. Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby, Ahmad Zahid said the PAC report should be accepted as an official report and not be subjected to political polemics.
“I hope the report will not become a subject of political polemics but will be accepted as an official report. The PAC comprises MPs from the Barisan Nasional and opposition. They (PAC members) will have surely scrutinised that there have been transactions which did not adhere to procedure. I leave it to the authorities to conduct the investigation,” he said.
