GEORGE TOWN, April 10 – The Football Association of Penang (FAP) has lodged a police report pertaining to an incident where several football fans allegedly hurled stones at the Penang team bus. FAP vice-president Mohd Azizudin Mohd Sharif said the report was made by assistant team manager L. Katheresen at the Kota Setar district police headquarters after the match between Penang and Kedah at the Darul Aman Stadium yesterday.
“A police report was made at the Kota Setar police headquarters and some of the evidence obtained from witnesses at the scene were handed to the police. The incident did not cause any serious injuries, and the FAP will leave it to the police to investigate and take further action,” he said in a statement sent via a short messaging service here, today.
In the incident after the match, several fans threw objects towards the visiting team bus, causing cracks on the windscreen. Azizudin said the FAP was also contacted by the Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) to receive early feedback regarding the incident.
“They (FMLLP) are waiting for a formal complaint from FAP and we expect it to be made within the next few days. FAP also hoped Penang supporters would remain calm and not make any provocation on social media sites, which would only aggravate the issue,” he said.
He said avoid negative hostility for the sake of the dignity of our football, and unite to fight for the prestige of Penang state football. In the Super League match between Kedah and Penang at the Darul Aman Stadium last night, Penang denied the home side all three points, after Darwira Sazan scored in the 86th minute to tie the game 2-2.
