GEORGE TOWN, Apr 17 – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had flag off the 4th Penang International Triathlon and Duathlon 2016 (PgiTD) which happen at Pantai Jubilee, Teluk Bahang this morning. While, SPONSOR sports drink which is the world’s No. 1 selling energy drink is the main sponsor for this event.
This year, the addition of female participants for the PgiTD got the attention of the Penang Chief Minister. He said previously, there were just about 20 women participated on this event, while this year were more than 100 women’s participated on it. He told this to reporters after flag off the participants at Pantai Jubilee, Teluk Bahang this morning.
Also present were G-Club Penang Cyclist chairman Datuk Dr Lim Seh Guan. Guan Eng also said that envisages in the future, Penang may organize Iron Man where it combine 42 kilometer marathon, cycling and swimming. In the meanwhile, Seh Guan also described that the competition was to promote the tourism sector in the country.
He said the participants were come from over 22 countries all the way from United States, Australia, Belgium, Britain, Canada, France, Philippines, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Netherland, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Venezuela and Malaysia.
He said PgiTD which concluded its fourth annual event this year which also the great success with this year’s event drawing 1000 participants both locally and internationally. 550 participants took part in the triathlon and 450 joined the duathlon. He told the reporters here after flag off PgiTD.
The triathletes started the day with a 1.5km swim at Pantai Jubilee followed by cycling 40km and running 10km. Meanwhile, duathletes were flagged off by Director of Community Services Department Penang, Rashidah Binti Jalaludin, Pornsak Sermwiwatwong, Senior Business Development Manager from TC Pharmaceutical and Organizing Chairman of PgiTD 2016, Ben Woon.
They started off with their 7 km run around the scenic Teluk Bahang fishing village, followed by a race to complete a 40 km cycle from Teluk Bahang Dam to Balik Pulau and back, and then a 10 km distance run and looping back to the finishing line at Teluk Bahang Dam.
