GEORGE TOWN, Apr 17 – Penang Fashion Week with the theme of Street Vogue which happening at Gurney Paragon yesterday evening with 15 local and international Asia Most Talented Designers. The gala night was began with an opening dance by Euphoria Penang.
Present were Penang State EXCO for Tourism Development, YB Danny Law; founder of Hunza Group, Dato’ Seri Khor Teng Tong, Datuk Professor Jimmy Choo; Hunza Group Managing Director Khor Siang Gin; and Executive Director of Hunza, Khor Tze Ming.
The theme of Street Vogue, the fashion show is presented in front of a backdrop of Penang ‘s Heritage building, with Vespa, the iconic colourful scooter parking at the back of the runway. Street Vogue is inspires by practicality and urban, in additional to classic. This translate perfectly into Penang, with streets and culture that are rich and deep in history.
Penang State EXCO for Tourism Development YB Danny Law in his speech said that the main reasons of Penang Fashion Week began is to provide a platform for up and coming designers and makers, who can market and showcase their collections or see their pieces modelled on the catwalk at the runway.
He also said that Penang Fashion Week is definitely a good platform to provide young and emerging talents the chance to break on to the fashion scene. He also added that it is also a platform to highlight the uniqueness of Penang and promote Penang as a tourist destination. One of the star highlight of the night include a jewellery runway show by Chow Tai Fook, modelled by Singapore-based singer cum actress, Jesseca Liu.
Chow Tai Fook is the latest additional to Gurney ParagonMall’s “first time in Penang” list tenants, direct from Hong Kong, flew in their collections of jewellery pieces (16 sets) for the gala night. Besides that, there were also other familiar brands making appearance on the runway include My Dream Wedding, La Martina and Tumi showcased their brands’ latest collection to the guests of the night too.
