KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 – The allegation made by The Wall Street Journal that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak received funds from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) is completely false, said the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Datuk Seri Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad.
“The prime minister has consistently the maintained that the funds were a donation from the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia. After the exhaustive of the investigations, this has been verified by the multiple lawful authorities,” he said in a statement here tonight.
“Most recently by the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, who confirmed that it was a genuine donation and that nothing was expected in return, and Saudi Arabia considered the matter closed. This is a lie that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has unsuccessfully used to try and unseat a democratically-elected government,” he said, adding that Dr Mahathir placed saving the political career of his son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, above the national interest.
