SHAH ALAM, April 20 – A man with eight children was sentenced to seven days’ jail and fined RM50,000 by the Sessions Court here today for corruption, involving RM10,000. Judge Zamri Bakar handed down the sentence on Cheong Hoong Wooi, 49, to be served from the date of arrest last April 14.
In the meantime, he have also been paid the fine. Cheong had pleaded guilty to a charge of offering bribe of RM10,000 to a Tenaga Nasional Berhad executive, Mohd Hishamuddin Hamid Latif, to not take action against him for tampering with the TNB meter.
He was charged with committing the offence at Newway Automobil Sdn Bhd in Jalan Kuala Selangor, Kampung Baru Ijok, Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor, at about 12.50 pm last April 14. The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Mohammed Heikal Ismail, while Cheong was represented by lawyer Mohd Shahrullah Khan Nawab Zadah Khan.
