KOTA BAHARU, April 21 – PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the party has no intention to merge or set up a coalition government with UMNO. He said the opinion of international preacher Dr Zakir Naik was his personal view and PAS accepted it in an open manner.

“However, we perceive the suggestion as one that was made without studying the scenario concerning the country’s politics and the stand and struggles of PAS as a whole all this while. PAS still maintains the same stand and we have never intended to merge with UMNO,” he told the reporters here while commenting on the suggestion by Dr Zakir that a coalition government between UMNO and PAS would be of great benefit to Malaysia in driving the country forward and strengthening Islam.
