KUCHING, April 25 – The nomination process today for the 11th Sarawak state election (SE-11) involving 82 state constituencies went smoothly, said the Election Commission. EC chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said no disruption had been reported in terms of security and public order at all the nomination centres.
“Right now, we are waiting for certain results pertaining to the election. The EC office here is expected to get all information on the nomination by 1 pm. If certain news are being circulated about the election, then they are from other quarters not from EC,” he said in a live interview by RTM at the EC office here today.
He will hold a press conference at 1 pm today particularly on seats involving multiple candidates. Nomination opened at 9 am and closed one hour later at 10 am, at 82 centres set up at government offices, community halls, schools, teachers’ colleges, libraries, government rest houses and indoor stadiums.
The SE-11 will see an additional 11 seats at stake, following the electoral boundary redelineation in the state. The new constituencies are Batu Kitang, Stakan, Serembu, Bukit Semuja, Gedong, Kabong, Tellian, Bukit Goram, Murum, Samalaju and Mulu. The state legislative assembly was dissolved on April 11 paving the way for the SE-11.
