Body Found Floating At Pulau Perhentian Confirmed To Be Of Chinese National



BESUT, April 28 – The body of a man found floating in the sea near Perhentian Island Resort, Pulau Perhentian Besar here has been confirmed to be of a Chinese citizen. Besut police chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the victim, Zhe Liu, 31, a native of Henan Province, was said to have arrived at Pulau Perhentian with his wife and five other friends on April 23 and was scheduled to return home on Thursday.

He said initial investigations revealed the group was staying at Awana Resort on the island. Before the incident, he also said that Zhe Liu went snorkeling alone while his friends and wife joined a diving activity at another location. Mohd Zamri said the body was taken to Besut Hospital and Chinese Embassy staff were expected to arrive on yesterday night or on Thursday to claim the body. Zhe Liu’s body was found by a boat operator about 300 metres from the beach near Perhentian Island Resort at about 11.50 am yesterday morning.
