GEORGE TOWN, Apr 29 – Pulau Tikus Assemblymember, YB Yap Soo Huey hold a press conference yesterday said SRS Consortium has appointed a consultant – Wiranda (M) Sdn Bhd – to conduct the Feasibility Study for the Penang Island Link 1 (PIL1) highway.

She said this study is currently ongoing and expected to be completed early May 2016. As part of this feasibility study, she said Wiranda (M) Sdn Bhd invited owners of properties immediately along Jalan Gottlieb and Jalan Bagan to participate in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD). She said FGDs for owners of properties immediately along Jalan Gottlieb and Jalan Bagan were conducted on 14th March, 17th March and 29th March 2016.

“Preliminary information on the PIL1 were presented to people who attended these sessions.  It is important to note that attendance at the above FGDs was poor and many have given feedback that they did not receive invitations to attend the FGDs. For all 3 sessions combined, attendance was about 20 persons. Residents in roads off Jalan Gottlieb and Jalan Bagan Jermal were not surveyed,” Yap said.

“For example, residents of Taman Gottlieb and Lorong Bagan Jermal were not contacted even though Jalan Gottlieb and Jalan Bagan Jermal are respectively the only entry/exit for these residents. After the FGDs, people who attended the FGDs decided to prepare written feedback so that their views can be submitted accurately to SRS Consortium and the Penang State Government,” she said.

“The purpose of today’s press conference is to convey some of their feedback and for me to collect their written feedback so that I can pass it on to the 4 parties addressed — YB Chow Kon Yeow (Chairman, Penang Transport Council), YB Lim Hock Seng (Joint-Chairman, Penang Transport Council), Szeto Wai Loong (SRS Consortium), Vishantini Kanasan (Secretariat, Penang Transport Council) and Abdul Wahid Ghazali (Wiranda Sdn Bhd).” she added.
