GEORGE TOWN, May 17 – Penang Gerakan Youth Chief Jason Loo urged Penang State Government to abolish the requirement to sign Statutory Declaration (SD) when applicants purchase documents under the Freedom of Information enactment (FOI) access. He said he was required to sign a SD during purchasing the of the Bayan Bay and Bayan Mutiara agreements in February 2016.
“According to the SD, in the event he is given the relevant agreement that I applied under the FOI access, I can only use the documents for “RUJUKAN PENYELIDIKAN PERIBADI” (References and Personal Research) which means the public or opposition party cannot use the relevent documents for the purpose of check and balance the administration of the state government,” Jason told a press conference outside the state legislative assembly here today.
Jason said he won’t sign the SD because it will set a bad example and the state government will require every applicants to sign it in the future. The impose of the new requirement (to sign SD) was decided by the state government after Penang Chief Minister announced that they were declassifying the Bayan Bay and Bayan Mutiara agreements to the public on 4 February this year.
