GEORGE TOWN, May 21 – The Football Association of Penang (FAP) and all state sports agencies should review the weaknesses of the Panthers squad who displayed inept performance in their Super League matches. State Youth and Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Chong Eng said Penang are in 12th place, the last spot in the table.
She said iin fact the 1-2 loss to Felda United last Wednesday also shut the door for the Panthers to play in the Malaysia Cup. She said in her winding up speech on Yang Dipertua Negeri’s address at the State Legislative Assembly, here Friday. Under the new Malaysia Cup regulations introduced this year, the team at the bottom of the league table after completing half of their league matches would lose their eligibility to compete in Malaysia Cup.
“The DAP-led Penang government knew the financial standing of every state sports associations, but could only channel aid and subsidy depending on their applications. The state government cannot not provide full aid to each state sports association. Apart from that, the state government via the Penang Sports Council had implemented various sports empowerment and enhancement programmes to raise the standard of sports,” Chong Eng said.
