KUALA KANGSAR, May 22 – Puteri UMNO will be focusing on some 7,000 voters below the age of 40 in the Kuala Kangsar by-election, said its chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin. Mas Ermieyati, who is also Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture, said the wing had mobilised 500 members to win them over to the Barisan Nasional.
She said they have streamlined the election machinery in all polling districts. She said so far she is very satsisfied with how the work is being done to ensure BN retains the seat. She told this to reporters here Saturday. June will be seeing two by-elections, in Sungai Besar, Selangor and Kuala Kangsar, Perak respectively.
The by-elections were called following the deaths of the incumbents, Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon (Sungai Besar) and Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad (Kuala Kangsar), who were killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5. Nomination has been set for June 5 and polling on June 18 for both parliamentary constituencies.
