BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 22 – Police have detained three men suspected to be peddling drugs and seized various types of drugs worth almost RM6,000 during a raid in Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, Seberang Jaya here on Thursday night. Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said a police team raided the rented house at 10pm and found a 33-year-old man with a plastic bag.
He said the man, who works as a labourer, tried to flee but failed and was later arrested because theye have cordoned off the area. He told this to reporters here Saturday. Rusli said checks on the man revealed that the plastic bag he was holding contained two packets of powder and slabs of heroin weighing 327 grammes.
He said following the arrest, police had also checked a store room next to the house and detained two men, aged 33 and 35, who were hiding in there. He said upon inspection of the duo, a security guard and a metal scrap yard worker, police found a packet of dried leaves believed to be marijuana weighing three grammes and three packets of methamphetamine (syabu) weighing about 3.4 grammes.
Police also seized drug paraphernalia and packaging equipment in the store. Rusli said the police did not rule out the possibility that the suspects, believed to drug syndicate members, had turned the store into a place for repackaging the substance before selling them to drug addicts. The suspects, who had previous narcotic related criminal records, were tested positive for drugs and remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
