KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 – MCA Youth chief Senator Chong Sin Woon Saturday said Kedah MCA deputy chairman Datuk Dr Leong Yong Kong who announced his resignation from the party Friday should not have made his decision in the spur of the moment as a reaction to the hudud issue.
“The Kedah state executive councillor should be together with the MCA leadership. A real hero stands and fights,” he told reporters after opening a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education Exhibition, here Saturday.
Chong also said Kedah MCA chairman Datuk Lee Chee Leong would be meeting Leong to discuss the matter. On Friday, Leong, who is Gurun assemblyman, announced his decision to resign from MCA at a media conference in Alor Setar as he was unhappy with the tabling of the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) 2016 Bill in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment in the bill, Chong said MCA did not intend to interfere in Islamic affairs and that the Barisan Nasional (BN) was still adhering to the Federal Constitution. He said he would like to stress that they are not against Islam and don’t push us into a religious conflict. He said this is the stand of BN and it was never affected. He also added that the issue of hudud is not our agenda but that of PAS.
