KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 – Five illegal parking touts including a Sri Lankan national were fined between RM500 and RM550 in the Magistrate’s Court, here today after pleading guilty to a charge of forcing and ordering drivers to park their vehicles without valid authority.
Magistrate Noorul Fhaiez Mohd Nayan imposed the RM550 fine in default five days’ jail on Sri Lankan national Puwakdandawe Muhandiramge Geeth Sampath, 40. Meanwhile G. Joseph Mano, 33, and G. Vikramraj, 30, were each fined RM500 in default five days’ jail.
Puwakdandawe was alleged to have forced drivers to park their vehicles and demanded them to make payment at Jalan Metro Pudu 2, here at 12.45am, on May 28. Joseph Mano and Vikramraj were charged with demanding money from drivers who parked their vehicles at Jalan Metro Pudu, here at, 11.50pm, on May 27. Prosecuting officer Inspector Hashimah Hashim appeared for the prosecution while all the three accused were not represented.
At the same court, another two illegal parking attendants, namely, Zainal Samat, 40, and A.Narasinga Rao, 37, were each fined RM500 in default five days’ jail after they pleaded guilty to a similar charge. Zainal was alleged to have committed the offence at Jalan Medan Tuanku, here, at 9.55pm, on May 27, while Narasinga Rao had committed the same offence at Jalan 1/68B Off Jalan Ampang, here at 2.20am, on May 28.
All of the accused were charged under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and punishable under Section 119(2) of the same act which provides for a maximum fine of RM2,000 or imprisonment for not exceeding six months, or both. Prosecuting officer Azlindayanty Mohd Termizi from the Road Transport Department prosecuted, while Zainal and Narasinga Rao were not represented.
