IPOH, Jun 1 – Perak police detained 110 criminals believed to be involved in secret societies and other criminal activities in the state throughout a month-long Ops Cantas Silver operation which started on April 14. Perak deputy police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said during the special operation which involved eight officers and 44 personnel from the Perak CID department was aimed at curbing gangsterism.
“The operation was carried out on a total harassment concept that targetted gangsters to prevent and increase in crime, gambling and prostitution. Of the 110 detained, 15 suspects were charged for various offences while the remaining 35 were detained for several offences. Since Operasi Lejang started in May, motorcycle theft in the state has dropped by 0.5 percent,” he said at the Perak police headquarters, here Tuesday.
