SUNGAI BESAR, Jun 8 – Sungai Besar voters staying outside the constituency are urged to return home for the by-election on June 18. Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob said as registered voters, they should exercise their right and ensure victory for a candidate who cared for the well-being of the people in Sungai Besar and capable of continuing with the development in the area.
“Even if it is one vote, it is crucial. If there are Sungai Besar voters in Kuala Lumpur or other places in the peninsula, they should come back. It is also hoped that the Sungai Besar voters would give their vote to Barisan Nasional (BN) because the candidate fielded by the coalition meets what the people want,” he told the reporters here.
Ismail Sabri, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, is here to assist the BN candidate, Sungai Panjang Assemblyman Budiman Mohd Zohdi, in the campaign. He said Budiman, who is also accepted by the non-Malays in Sungai Besar, is the most qualified person to continue with the party legacy in Sungai Besar.
“In the meanwhile, he (Budiman) has a good track record, and when he was announced as a candidate, we can see the mood changed, because he is accepted by all. What is important the acceptance should be translated into votes for BN on June 18,” said Ismail Sabri.
Budiman will face PAS’ candidate, Meru Assemblyman Dr Abdul Rani Osman, and Azhar Abdul Shukur, of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), in the tussle for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat. Polling is on June 18. The by-election is called following the death of its incumbent Tan Sri Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, last May 5. — Bernama
