GEORGE TOWN, Jun 8 – The Penang State Government sponsored RM15 million for the construction of a religious school, Al-Itqan Education Center (PPAIQ) which located at Lot 347 and Lot 348, Mukim 9, Teluk Kumbar, Bayan Lepas. Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the construction will be involved the four blocks of four-storey building in phases over three acres of land.
“The project will be developed by the developer, Ideal Property Group (IDEAL), is coincident in time in view not only because of the month of Ramadan, but it can also benefit the rakyat, especially residents in Teluk Kumbar,” he told the reporters in a press conference here at Komtar today.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister I, Dato ‘Mohd. Rashid Hasnon; Executive Councillor for Religious Affairs, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Dato ‘Abdul Malik Abul Kassim; Exco Public Works, Utilities and Transport, Lim Hock Seng; and Exco Town & Country Planning and Housing, Jagdeep Singh Deo.
Besides that, also present were Chairman of the Board PPAIQ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Aziz and Chairman of IDEAL, Datuk Alex Ooi. According to Lim, the project is expected to take 18 months (phase 1) to complete. He said it will be equipped with 56 classrooms, 2 teachers’ rooms, administrative offices, treatment rooms, a cooperative, multi-purpose halls, conference rooms, library, computer room, a science lab and canteen.
“Now, the school has only 220 primary schools students and 70 secondary school students. When completed, it can accommodate up to 1,000 primary and secondary school students, “he explained. In the meantime, Abdul Halim also expressed his gratitude on the related announcement.
PPAIQ is integrated schools, two streams of religious sects and mainstream operating without profit. The school are located in Jalan Kampung Masjid, Teluk Kumbar. The schools began operating in 1998, was formerly known as Sekolah Rendah Islam Al-Islah with only 3 teachers and 70 students.
