KANGAR, Jun 14 – Nine areas in Perlis contributed to the high Aedes breeding index with potential for occurrence of dengue fever or dengue hemorrhagic fever from May 28 to June 4 this year. Perlis Health director Dr Zaini Hussin said, “Week 22 recorded three less cases of dengue outbreak compared to 12 recorded within the corresponding period last year,” he said in a statement, here Monday.
The nine areas were Medan Ikan Bakar Kuala Perlis and Kampung Pak Lengah (Kuala Perlis constituency), Kampung Binjal, Kampung Sentua and Seriab police quarters (Kayang constituency); Mata Ayer town (Mata Ayer constituency), Kampung Belat Raja (Pau constituency), Kampung Wang Besar (Bintong constituency) and Taman Repuh and Padang Pauh (Santan constituency).
A total of 539 inspections were conducted on Aedes breeding spots which involved 15 areas and found that 30 premises were breeding grounds for Aedes. There were 83 dengue fever or dengue hemorrhagic fever cases, a decrease of 27 cases or 24.55% compared to the corresponding period last year which recorded 110 cases. — Bernama
