KUALA KANGSAR, Jun 15 – More than RM1 million have been allocated to upgrade roads and improve basic facilities at the Orang Asli settlements in Kampung Ulu Bekor and Kampung Bukit Cermin near here. Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said part of the allocation was used for building 80 toilets in the two villages as many of the houses were without the facility.
He said basic amenities such as electricity and water have already been provided; other necessary additions are in the form of accessories such as street lighting. He told this to reporters on late Monday night. Earlier, he attended a gathering with the Orang Asli community at Kampung Ulu Bekor and Kampung Bukit Cermin.
Also present were Wan Emir Astar Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar, 26, Wan Imar Izzat, 25, Wan Iskandar, 23, and Wan Muhammad Amar, 19, who are sons of the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election BN candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid. Ismail Sabri said the villagers, who are mainly farmers, were also provided with agricultural equipment.
Meanwhile, the three other candidates for the seat are from PAS, Parti Amanah Negara and an independent. The seat fell vacant following Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad’s death in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5. — Bernama
