KUANTAN, Jun 17 – A Form Two student was among twelve men detained by the police, who was believed to plan to buy ketum water supply during a raid on a house in Felda Mempaga 3, Bentong on Wednesday. Bentong district police chief Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor said in the 10pm incident, all of them, aged between 14 and 56, who were gathered at the porch of the house attempted to flee when they aware of the police presence.
Two of the suspects were Indonesian nationals and two more suspects also tested positive for amphetamine while another was positive for Tetra Hydrocannabinol (THC). He said initial investigations revealed that the suspects often obtained the ketum water from the house as the house had been used as a place for processing ketum water. He said each packet is sold at between RM10 to RM20.
In the meanwhile, he also added that the owner of the house is also believed to get the ketum leaf supplies from another area at RM23 per kg to distribute to the Mempaga residents. Mohamad Mansor said the police also seized 25kg of ketum leaves, 40 plastic packets and 100-litres of ketum water. The case was being investigated under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952, which carries a sentence of up to four years jail or fine of RM10,000 or both, if convicted. — Bernama
