SUNGAI BESAR, Jun 18 – Elderly voters coming to cast their votes at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Utama here today praised the Election Commission (EC) for providing the buggy service for their convenience. Majority of the senior citizens were seen enjoying the service as the polling centre was located about 100m from the school gate.
Khadijah Sultan, 75, said in previous elections, elderly voters had to make do with the wheelchairs provided at polling centres to perform their duties as registered voters. She said the buggy service, however, was faster and more practical as it could transport more elderly voters to the polling centre at a time.
She said she used to be able to walk, but as she get older and have knee problems, she is not able to walk long distance. She also said that this buggy service really made it easy for her. Meanwhile, Chia Moy Khang, 69, admitted that he breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing the buggy car at the school gate.
The man whose movement was limited due to a stroke he suffered two years ago said this is very good due to it makes it easy for old and unhealthy man like him to go cast his vote.
