KUALA TERENGGANU, Jun 19 – The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will intensify operations and enforcement until the coming festive season, says its enforcement division senior general manager, Datuk Che Hasni Che Ahmad. He said this was to ensure public transport operators complied with the safety factor and bus fares, among others.
“During festive seasons, public transport such as buses and taxis become the choice of passengers. We will enhance and expand operations in other states, besides ensuring transport fares are not increased arbitrarily,” Che Hasni told reporters here on Friday.
He said SPAD would not compromise with any bus operator or driver who failed to comply, adding that stern action would be taken against them.SPAD is working with several other agencies, including the National Anti-Drugs Agency to ensure bus drivers were not under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on duty.
Che Hasni said the urine tests on bus drivers would be carried out to ensure they are free from any banned substances as the passengers lives and safety depend on the driver. He said inspections at bus terminals would also be carried out besides patrols, including at the East Coast Expressway and ‘Ops Penyamaran’ to take action against errant drivers. Meanwhile, he said operators of additional buses must obtain Temporary Licence Change (LPS) to carry out the service during festive season. — Bernama
