KUALA TERENGGANU, Jun 19 – Working while doing charity. This was what the Terengganu media practitioners were doing since late last night to distribute 50 packs of food to the homeless and security guards in the city. The program, which began at 11pm, was an initiative by media practitioners from the various agencies and the expenses incurred came from their own pocket as well as from certain individuals.
Naming the group of 10 people as the ‘Geng Amal Media Terengganu’ (GAMT), they agreed to provide packs containing white rice and chicken curry as well as drinks since 10pm. GAMT spokesman Nik Muhamad Zaid Nik Salim said besides doing news coverage in the area, such initiative could also ease their burden especially during the month of Ramadan.
“The Program known as ‘Jengah Sahur’ is a pioneer program and for a start, we distribute food for ‘sahur’ to the homeless, security guards and beggars found at the Kuala Terengganu City Council Bus Terminal and Dataran Shahbandar. The food distributed were contributed by media colleagues in the state to help the less-privileged group,” he said after distributing the food packs here.
He said the GAMT was not an association nor a club and it did not have a special fund to implement any program, as such any contribution or sponsorship would be most welcome. Zaid added that the charity program was not only confined to the month of Ramadan but would be continued in the future. — Bernama
