GEORGE TOWN, Jun 20 – The United For Paws Charity Event will be held on June 25 from 4pm to 10pm at the Precint 10 (Outdoor Car Park) in Tanjong Tokong. This event was organised by DISTED School of Hospitality Management Semester 7 students 2016.
Also present were the State Exco for Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Phee Boon Poh, Project Advisor Ravichandran Sellakannu and the charity event president Lim Chun Ming in the press conference at Komtar press conference room here today.
The United For Paws Charity Event is to aims to tackle the problems of strays as well as abuse towards dogs by providing a platform in which fun as well as education can take place with its many activities that connects with the slogan of Run Play Love protect.
“United for Paws is an event that was born out the compassion of our members to tackle the issues within the society today more specifically the problems of strays and dog abuse. Since last year, there has been a big spotlight shown upon the issues of strays and dogs but why did these issues occur in the first place?” Lim said during the press conference.
“It is down to irresponsible members of the public who lacks the education and knowledge to properly take care of these poor souls that have led to the problems of strays as well as abuse towards dogs. Our activities includes a charity dog show which was conceived to show people that if dogs are given proper care, they can reach their full potential and be worthy even to be compared to the dogs on show,” he said.
The event will showcase activities like Doggiethon, “Let It Glow” Zumba, Charity Dog Show, Food Fiesta, Doggie Craft For Kids and others. The charity recipient Penang Animal Welfare Society (4PAWS) is a no-kill shelter that currently houses 600 strays which are taken care of by volunteers and it currently needs around RM40,000 per month to continue its operation as the supplies needed as well as the medical bills of the dogs.
Lim said will be allocated minimum of RM 5,000 to the 4PAWS or more after the event. He said, so far they had get the sponsorship item or cash of about RM 40,000. History has shown that dogs were evolved to be companions for humans and therefore it is the responsibility for humans to take care of these animals and given them a proper life.
Lim said he hope that through this project, their long term goal can be achieved and they dream that in the future, there would be no more strays and man as well as dogs can live long and fulfilling lives with one and another.
