KUALA LUMPUR, Jun 24 – The Umno supreme council has unanimously decided to sack former deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir from the party. Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the unanimous decision, by the supreme council here on Friday, was taken as the duo had shared the same stage with the Opposition.

He said it is a regrettable and irresponsible act. He said the Supreme Council had been suspended UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie’s membership until the party disciplinary board gets a report over the matter. He announced this at a press conference after chairing a Umno Supreme Council (MT) meeting at Menara Dato ‘Onn, here, today.

At the same conference, Najib also said the government allocation of the Perdana Leadership Foundation headed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be stopped immediately and all employees will be given notice to quit. He said the decision was made following bodies concerned have an attempt to discredit the prime minister and the government are legitimate.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor; Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein; Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa; Umno treasurer Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzalah; and wing chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and Khairy Jamaluddin.
