SUBANG JAYA, Jun 28 – At least eight people were injured after a hand grenade was hurled into a nightspot at IOI Boulevard, Puchong, early today. Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the explosion occurred at about 2:15am while the patrons were watching a Euro 2016 football match between Spain and Italy.
Four men and four women, including a female Chinese national, were sent to Hospital Serdang and Hospital Sunway for treatment. Initial reports were that an estimated 20 patrons at the outlet when the explosion went off at the tail-end of the Italy-Spain match.
He said a home-made bomb – possibly a petrol-based Molotov cocktail – was suspected to be a likely cause of the explosion, but added that further investigations would need to confirm this suspicion. A security guard working at the area said he saw smoke billowing from the nightspot after the explosion. He said he saw three people injured by shards of broken glass. Besides that, a car parked about 30m away from the premises was also damaged by the explosion.
