GEORGE TOWN, Jun 28 – Gurney Paragon Mall treated 33 underprivileged children and their caretakers from Wisma Yatim Perempuan Islam Pulau Pinang to a joy of shopping and a breaking of fast at Gurney Paragon Mall’s justfood (Level 5) and Padini Concept Store respectively.
Held on Monday evening, the shopping cum dinner was organised by the mall in conjunction with the spirit of the holy month. The dinner of its kind was held as part of the mall’s efforts to do more for the underprivileged and to contribute to the social well-being of the society.
Gurney Paragon Mall views its place in society very seriously and takes its role as a corporate citizen with deep commitments to the community. The children aged between nine and seventeen, were given a warm welcome by Hunza Group Executive Directors, Ms. Khor Tze Ming and Ms. Lily Tan, accompanied by the state assembly woman for Pulau Tikus, YB Yap Soo Huey, members of the media and the staff from Gurney Paragon Mall.
The ceremony started off with a group photo in front of “A Sparkling Raya” décor at the mall, and the children were also given a green packet each. The children were then being ushered to Padini Concept Store at Level 2 and 3 of Gurney Paragon Mall to do their Raya shopping. Each child was given RM100 duit raya to purchase their favourite raya garments.
After the shopping, a buka puasa dinner was served at the food court. The associates also took the opportunity to mingle with and entertain the children, all of whom were in baju kurung. The event is supported by warm-hearted sponsors including justfood, Padini Concept Store and Balloon Wonderland. It was an unforgettable and meaningful celebration with peace and laughter.
The corporate volunteers felt privileged that they were able to contribute their time and effort to put a smile on the faces of these underprivileged children. As we celebrate the arrival of Raya festival, it is important to remember those who are less fortunate than ourselves and help to bring comfort and happiness to them.
