GEORGE TOWN, Jun 29 – A crowd of 500 people gather outside Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here chanting Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to be release. Protesters chanted “Bebas Guan Eng” and “Tangkap Najib” from 8.30pm, carrying placards condemning the arrest.
Meanwhile, there were also candlelight vigil and singing song to stand solidarity with Lim outside of the MACC headquarter was happened this evening. Also present were the late DAP National Chairman Karpal Singh’s wife, Gurmit Kaur, who was greeted by Penang Exco members.
Earlier, Lim was arrested by MACC officers at his office here, Komtar. His former landlord, Phang Li Koon, was also been arrested at her office at Menara Penang Garden about the same time. Both will be produced at the Sessions Court here at 10am tomorrow to face the charges.
Lim was earlier being investigated by MACC over the purchase of a bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn here at a price of RM2.8 million from Phang Li Koon and was said to be below market price. Last May, Lim and his wife Betty Chew testified at the MACC office in relation to investigations into the purchase of a bungalow and sale of land in Taman Manggis, Jalan Zainal Abidin, here, to build affordable housing to a private company.
