GEORGE TOWN, Jun 30 – Penang Local Government Committee chairman and state DAP head Chow Kon Yeow said DAP decided today that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng does not need to step down nor take leave from his state government position. He said this decision was made by the state committee after Lim was charged at Penang High Court today.
On the RM1 million bail posted by Lim, Chow said RM890,000 was from the Penang DAP while the rest was from the central party leadership. The party vice chairman said they had planned to restore the monies to the state committee account and return the funds to the central leadership. Meanwhile, he also added that the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) will meet on July 1 at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Lim was charged with corruption under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Section 165 of the Penal Code at the Penang High Court today. Lim was later released on a bail of RM1 million. The date for next hearing has been set at September 22.
