GEORGE TOWN, Jul 2 – State opposition leader Datuk Jahara Hamid tells Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was charged with corruption on Thursday, should relinquish his post pending the latter’s corruption trial or go on leave. She said although Lim was not bound by the general order that applies to civil servants, he should do so as a matter of principle until his name is cleared.
In the meanwhile, Jahara asked: “How can Lim lead the state government when he himself is shadowed with the corruption charges?” She said it is a shadow of doubt on Lim leadership. She said this during the press conference at Menara Boustead here on Friday.
Lim was charged with corruption under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Section 165 of the Penal Code at the Penang High Court today. Lim was later released on a bail of RM1 million. The Penang DAP also resolved that he should remain as chief minister pending the outcome of his trial.
