KUALA TERENGGANU, Jul 8 – Twenty-two cases of parcel fraudulent scam with losses amounting to RM568,800 were recorded in Terengganu during the first six months of this year. Terengganu Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief, Supt Koh Ah Tiam said the number was alarming as compared to 42 cases recorded throughout last year involving a loss of RM480,827.
He said internet users are reminded to be wary of promises of delivery of gifts, especially from unknown contacts to avoid being victims of such parcel fraudulent scams. He said the syndicate would identify their victims, especially senior citizens and students, through the social networking sites such as Facebook, Tagged and others as their main targets. Hence, Koh said the public must not be easily deceived by any deals offered and to check with the relevant parties first before making any transactions. — Bernama
