TEMERLOH, Jul 10 – Storm havoc which wreaked at about 5.45pm on Saturday left 132 houses in eight areas in this district damaged, with total losses estimated at RM700,000. However, there were no casulties. Temerloh fire and rescue chief Hashnuddin Husein told reporters here today that most suffered roof damage.
He said the areas badly hit were Kampung Tualang, Kampung Bukit Kemuning, Kampung Chengal, Kampung Paya Kechik, Kampung Batu Satu, Kampung Haji Ali, Kampung Paya Dalam, Kampung Lompat, Taman Temerloh Jaya, Taman Temerloh Makmur, Taman Chengal and Taman Bahagia.
The Welfare Department, Civil Defence Department and District Security Council are assisting the victims. Meanwhile, Pahang Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin, who is also Temerloh Umno chief, and the Temerloh Umno division raised RM42,600 for immediate aid to the victims. One of the victims, Fatimah Sudin, 49, from Taman Temerloh Makmur, said in just two minutes tiles of her roof were ripped off.
“There were about 10 people at home catching up for Aidilfitri and suddenly there was a thunderous sound followed by strong winds and heavy rain. Part of my roof and ceiling were blown away, it all happened withing two minutes,” she said when met at her home. However, she was grateful that no one was hurt. — Bernama
