Integrity Commission Receives Most Complaints Against Police
PUTRAJAYA, Jul 22 – The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) received 1,551 complaints of misconduct in six years since its establishment in which 80% or 1,065 of them involved the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). EAIC chairman Datuk Yaacob Md Sam said 28 complaints were referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), 52 were referred to disciplinary authorities, 40 were referred to PDRM and MACC disciplinary authorities while 350 complaints had full investigations conducted.
The remaining 859 complaints received since April 2011 until yesterday were rejected, he said. Speaking at a media conference after opening an EAIC Complaint and Customer Service Counter here today, Yaacob said the large number of personnel and officers as well as the wide provision of law enforcement were among the factors PDRM were ahead of other enforcement agencies in getting complaints from the public.
He said PDRM is the leading enforcement agency dealing with the people and the situation may cause dissatisfaction which drives the people to lodge their complaints. On the percentage of complaints resolved, Yaacob said all complaints presented in 2011 to 2014 were completely solved while 93% of the complaints were settled last year.
In this regard, he said the opening of the commission’s Complaint and Customer Service Counter on the ground floor of Bangunan Menara Usahawan here was to facilitate members of the public to lodge their complaints face-to-face to ensure more accurate and faster service.
Yaacob said the primary function of the counter was to receive complaints, general enquiries, advice and feedback from customers apart from gauging the level of customer satisfaction. Asked if the commission had any proposal to open such counters in other places, he said for the time being it could not be carried out due to specific constraints faced by EAIC. — Bernama
