GEORGE TOWN, Aug 29 – A video clip showing that the Penang DAP assemblyman father appearing to solicit money in order to obtain low cost housing for people has went viral on social media. The video, which was released on Facebook page “Penang Kini” on Saturday shows that Siew Khim’s father, Lim Keat Seong talking about the payment.

Penang Gerakan Vice-Chairman Oh Tong Keong said upon analysis of the video, Keat Seong was alleged to have collected payments for the housing units, but failed to deliver on his promise. Oh said Keat Seong’s clients have been told to pay RM260 for a form and later ‘Agent Lim’ or ‘Uncle Lim’ would confirm they would get an affordable unit.

“However, based on the video, it appears that Uncle Lim’s clients have come back to ask him to return the money owed, as the promise of an affordable home never materialised. We would like to know what actually happened. When did this matter been happen? When did the negotiations between the two parties happen?” Oh told the reporters in a press conference here today.

In the meantime, Penang Gerakan Anti-Corruption and Land bureau spokesperson H’ng Khoon Leng also urged DAP’s Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim to explain her father’s conduct and also Penang housing committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo to answer claims of corrupt practices involving the low-cost housing applications.

Oh, concurring with Hng, said these middlemen were depriving eligible and deserving applicants from owning affordable housing. Oh and Hng advised those who paid to apply for state housing properties to lodge complaints with Gerakan immediately or call Hng at 012-409-8718.

Lim has, however, denied all knowledge of her father’s conduct, claiming that the attack is unfounded. She said she have not done anything wrong. She advised the victims to lodge a police report if there are attempts to solicit money to help them to get government housing, and the police are urged to investigate.

“There’s a video clip circulating on social media accusing my father of soliciting money from complainants in order to get low medium cost houses. My name was mentioned for abusing power,” Lim told the reporters at her service centre in Jelutong here later.

“I would like to stress that my father has no power to influence the decision of the Penang state government. Neither do I,” Lim told reporters at her service centre in Jelutong later. Gerakan’s attack is unfounded and without basis. I strongly believe that this is all related to Gerakan’s leaders tussle for Sungai Pinang constituency,” she said.

“Oh is trying his very best to play up this incident. I would like to advice Oh not to jump for joy as if he can outdo other Gerakan leaders to be Sungai Pinang candidate by exploiting this past issue through attacking me and the party. I also would like to advise victims to lodge a police report if there were any attempts to solicit money to help them to get government housing, and the police are urged to investigate,” she added.
