Flash Floods Hits Several Areas In Penang After Hours Of Downpours
GEORGE TOWN, Oct 29 – Flash Floods hitting many low-lying areas of the city today after hours of continuous downpour. It also caused a mudslide and fallen trees in several areas. The water level had reached above the knee and some cars had been stuck in the flood.
Flash floods occurred in several areas including Bandar Baru Air Itam, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Masjid Negri and also Sungai Pinang, causing drains to overflow. Two of the city’s main arterial roads, Lebuhraya Thean Teik and Jalan Masjid Negeri, flash floods have reduced traffic to a crawl.
According to Civil Defence Department Northeast Division chief Maxwell Panchai, the department had also received a report that a mudslide occurred in Farlim due to the downpours. Besides that, an uprooted tree is reported to have crashed onto a parked vehicle at Jalan Patani. No one has been reported displaced or injured so far.
