Apple’s Single Sign-On Feature Gains Support For Disney And ABC Apps

Apple formally introduced its new Single Sign-On feature yesterday, though with a weak list of supporters, both in terms of apps and cable companies. According to a new report from The Verge, however, Apple is adding support for the ABC and Disney apps just a day after the initial launch…

Starting today, the Watch ABC and Watch Disney apps for tvOS and iOS will now atualtically log you in, assuming you’ve entered your cable provider login credentials into the Settings app.

This means that if you open either the Watch ABC or Watch Disney app on iOS or tvOS, you’ll automatically be logged into the service and have instant access to streaming the latest content.

Despite today’s addition of Disney and ABC, however, the list of apps that support Single Sign-On is still severely lacking. At this point, holdouts include major network apps such as HBO Go, NBC, Fox, and CBS.

Perhaps more notably, however is the list of cable providers that support Single Sign-On. At this point, providers like Comcast, Verizon Fios, Charter, and Time Warner Cable do not support the feature, but Apple claims that more providers are coming as time progresses.

Below is the full list of apps that support Single Sign-On as of now, not including today’s additions of Watch ABC and Watch Disney.

  • A&E (iOS only)
  • Bravo Now (tvOS only)
  • E! Now (tvOS only)
  • Hallmark Channel Everywhere (iOS and tvOS)
  • History (iOS only)
  • Lifetime (iOS only)
  • NBC (tvOS only)
  • Syfy Now (tvOS only)
  • Telemundo Now (tvOS only)
  • USA NOW (tvOS only)
  • Watch HGTV (iOS and tvOS)
  • Watch Food Network (iOS and tvOS)
  • Watch Cooking Channel (iOS and tvOS)
  • Watch DIY (iOS and tvOS)
  • Watch Travel Channel (iOS and tvOS)

Single Sign-On was first announced at WWDC over the summer, but didn’t go live to the public until yesterday after a brief beta period. Apple hopes the feature will eventually mean that users will only have to enter their cable providers once during the setup of a new Apple TV. For the time being, however, you’ll still have to enter your login many more times than you’d like.
