GEORGE TOWN, Dec 18 – The launching of Down-To-Earth Life Market was happening at Straits Court, Straits Quay on Tuesday morning. The event was collaboration between ADUN Tanjong Bunga YB Teh Yee Cheu and Persatuan Komuniti Ros Merah Pulau Pinang is an encouraging programme to help spread awareness about leading a healthy lifestyle. This farmer’s market is a good way to promote direct interaction between farmers and consumers.
Down to Earth Life Market brings together two kinds of vendors: local farmers and area food makers who source locally. This special edition market includes produce from 15 local farmers and are vendors from two existing markets – one called Man Man Market, which is held every first Sunday of the month at Pusat Pertanian Agropelancongan in Relau; and the other called Farmer’s Market held every 3rd Sunday of the month at Straits Quay.
Down to Earth Life Market is held at Straits Quay, the first seafront retail marina. So, besides all the lovely fresh produce and healthy food which can enjoy the wonderful scenery and sea breeze. Down to earth is also roughly translated as ‘Lau Sit’ in Hokkien – friendly, simple and self-effacing. These values are universal and it creates a community spirit which makes the market a great place to buy, sell and transact.
