BUTTERWORTH, Jan 1 – A total of 828 summonses for various offences were issued by the Road Transport Department (RTD) in the operations in conjunction with the Christmas and also the 2017 New Year celebrations throughout Penang beginning Dec 24. 

State RTD Director Noorul Habib Abdul Guduse said throughout the operation which ended early this morning, a total of 3,847 vehicles including 2,000 motorcycles were inspected. He said there were fifty-one motorcycles were impounded and the summonses issued were for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987. 

In addition, he also added that there were two male motorcyclists were also detained after being found to be drug positive. He said this when approached by reporters during the operation at the Penang Bridge, at midnight here last night. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police, National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
