Driver Burnt To Death After Car Crashes Into Tree On Penang Expressway



GEORGE TOWN, Mar 5 – A 25-year-old driver was found burnt to death in the driver’s seat of a Proton Saga FLX after the car lost control and smashes into a tree and caught fire at Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway today. The morning accident occurred in front of the Malaysia Highway Authority Penang office near Batu Uban.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed the driver’s identity as Oh Chun Guan. He said the incident took place at about 8.07am when Oh was heading to town from Bayan Lepas. He said he believed that the driver lost control of the car, which crashed into a tree before bursting into flames with the driver still inside.

A Fire and Rescue Department official said they received a report on the incident at 7.54am and firemen arrived at the scene within five minutes, but by then the fire had already died down. He added Fire and Rescue Department took almost an hour on whole operation. ACP Mior said the body has been sent to the Penang Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem will be conducted. He said the case has been classified as reckless driving under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
