GEORGE TOWN, Mar 13 – About 2,000 over crowd join the USM 11th Chinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration with Astro Singer Danny Koo and Geraldine Gan. The event was launched by Deputy Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya at Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra (DTSP) here on Sunday evening.
This event was organized by Chinese Arts & Cultural Secretariat of USM with marking its eleventh year of organizing the Chinese New Year celebration. This year, they strive to bring you a brand new sensation to usher the year of Rooster. The USM 11th Chinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration is named ‘Mai Union’, which means to invite people from all walks of life to celebrate Chinese New Year together.
The core value of this event is ‘Innovating while holding on to traditions’. It allows the true meaning of Chinese culture and tradition to be felt, thus raises the awareness of maintaining the culture and tradition among the your generation. Besides, the theme concept which is ‘Different yet celebrate together’, means all are welcomed to the USM 11th Chinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration regardless of race and hometown in conjunction with the ‘1Malaysia’ concept.
According to the organizers, the funds who obtained from USM 11th Chinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration will be donated for families, who need or with low income. Families were given help is composed of three races, namely Malay, Chinese and Indian. Various presentations were delivered in the night, such as traditional dances, Chinese orchestra, drums, Chinese yoyo, crosstalk and more.
Also present were Vice- Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Datuk Prof Dr Asma Ismail; Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Development), Prof Dato’ Dr Adnan Hussein; Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Advisory of Chinese Arts and Cultural Secretariat, Mr. Zulkifli Bin Che Hussin; Ex-Co of the Chinese Arts and Cultural Secretariat of USM, Kho Ying Han; and USM 11th Chinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration Project Director, Cheng Wai Hoe.
