KUCHING, Apr 19 – A local woman and her Nigerian boyfriend were detained in connection with the discovery of a box containing drugs, worth RM347,300, in her office last week. Sarawak Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department head Supt Sahar Abdul Latif said the woman, about 25 years of age, was arrested at an office at Jalan Rock here last Thursday following a tip-off.

The drugs, comprising 962 gm of syabu and 1,299 ecstasy pills, were found in a Poslaju courier box which was sent from an address in Kuala Lumpur, he told a media conference at the Sarawak police contingent headquarters here today. Following the arrest of the woman, he said, police arrested her Nigerian friend, 28, who is a private college student, at Jalan Satok here the same day.

Meanwhile, Sahar said the Sarawak police had recorded 88 drug trafficking cases, involving 122 arrest, between January and March this year, compared with 82 cases and 154 arrested during the corresponding period last year. He said 566 arrest were made during the same period this year for cases involving drug possesses, against 462 arrest last year. On the drug seizures during the same period this year, he said they comprised 5,835.15 gm of cannabis, syabu ( 2,409 gm), ketamine (400.62 gm), ecstasy pills (4,148) and eramin pills (940). — Bernama
