GEORGE TOWN, Apr 22 – Penang Fashion Week 2017 go on with the Penang designers made their presence felt alongside established names at Gurney Paragon Mall. Among the upcoming designers was Micheal Ooi who showcased a ready-to-wear range he dubbed ‘The Pearl of the Orient — The Detail of Penang’. He believes fashion can boost a person’s confidence. His designs embody this belief with a modern, sophisticated and clean outlook.
During last night’s shows, it was the turn of two established fashion designers Samson Wong, 27, and Pa Ya Hui, 32, to hog the limelight. Samson Wong approaching fashion through the cultural lens. He based his design on his Peranakan heritage to his menswear collection. He being a passionate fashion designer, the lifestyle reflects in the design choices of using embroideries.
Pa Ya Hui, a graduate from Middlesex University of Art and Design, is a Malaysian fashion designer now based in Malaysia. Indulge in music, art and history, master in pattern cutting and draping technique, looking for possibilities in new visual language to represent female in an extraordinary way through new technique and concept. Hence, Pa’s designs are fresh and unique. The fashion showcase continues this weekend.
There will be a series of shows today by Jojo Lim at 1pm, Akemi Uchi at 3pm, Alden Leong and Raymond Kho at 5pm, Equator College at 7pm and Brandon Tan at 8pm. Tomorrow, there will be sessions by PUMA at noon, Ranndy Goh at 1pm, Lancaster at 3pm and Dressing Paula at 5pm. The sessions will be followed by the closing ceremony featuring Tanya Steven, La Martina, Tumi and Kate Spade New York starting at 7pm.
