KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 – Police have arrested two men for being involved in a brawl near the Ampang Hospital at 3.15am on Monday. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Hamzah Alias said a police patrol intervened after a brawl broke out between 80 individuals.
“Police approached the group and ordered them to disperse, but the order was ignored. A man involved in the incident was arrested. Another individual who ran off while holding a machete was also arrested. The men were using their motorcycle helmets as weapons,” he said.
The brawl was captured on video and the footage was also shared on social media. In the video, two men can be seen trying to flee on motorcycles, while a group of men in pursuit tries to stop them from getting away. A group of people can be seen chasing and pulling two other motorcyclists off their bikes. Amidst the commotion, police arrested a 28-year-old man and another 33-year-old man who was wielding a parang.
Hamzah said the suspect with the parang was trying to run away but they caught up with him and seized the weapon,” Hamzah said. He also said that the 54cm long machete was confiscated. Police also confiscated two motorcycles. The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for carrying weapons in public places.
