GEORGE TOWN, May 25 – A group of 10 traders from Mak Mandin held a placards protest against the demolition of their stalls by MPSP on March 21. The protest was held at Penang State Legislative Assembly building in Lebuh Light here urging the state to assist them. Roti canai seller Zainol Abidin Abdul Rahman, 53, concurred with Mohd Nazier and urged the state to provide compensation.
He said he received the eviction notices two weeks prior to his stall being demolished but hoped the state could assist them. When met, Bagan Jermal assemblyman Lim Hock Seng said the traders were operating without licenses and had encroached on state land adding one of the operators had even erected a brick building which covered a drain. He also added that to those affected could apply for vacant Seberang Perai Municipal Council hawker lots and their applications will be considered. — PN
