LABUAN, Jun 3 – Some 1,000 participants, including former Sabah football players, local athletes and youths joined the torch run in conjunction with the coming 29th SEA Games and ninth ASEAN Para Games. It was exchanged for a torch to mark the start of the Kuala Lumpur 2017 Torch Run here and the runs were organised in conjunction with the coming games.

Therefore, the Minister of the Federal Territory Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor also handed over the torch to the Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Rozman Isli and subsequently to Labuan-born national football legend Datuk Hassan Sani.

The torch run has traversed the country since May 14 in Johore and is scheduled to end on Aug 12 in Kuala Lumpur. The torch run will travel through selected iconic places across the country, making the run unique as this has never been done before in the history of the two games (SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games).

In Labuan, the run travelled through iconic places such as the Financial Park, Labuan Sports Complex, Patau-Patau Water Village, Kg Sg Keling Market, Kg Sg Bedaun, Kg Bukit Kalam, Layang-Layangan and Batu Manikar. The torch will be passed on to Sabah tomorrow (June 4) at the Labuan Airport. — Bernama
